Detect any card brand.
Enter a card BIN to instantly detect its network — Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB or Diners Club — along with the issuer and card type.
How card brand detection works
A card's brand — the payment network it runs on — is determined by its leading digits. Visa cards begin with 4, Mastercard with 51–55 or 2221–2720, American Express with 34 or 37, Discover with 6011/65, JCB with 3528–3589 and Diners Club with 300–305/36/38.
Detecting the brand from the BIN lets merchants apply the correct interchange rules, display the right card logo at checkout, and route transactions to the appropriate network. Developers use brand detection to validate card inputs in real time.
This checker resolves the full BIN — not just the first digit — so it can also tell you the issuing bank, country and card type alongside the brand. It's free, with no login and no data storage.
Also known as: card brand detector, payment network lookup, card scheme checker. They all describe the same lookup.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I detect the brand from just the first digit?
- The first digit gives a strong hint, but the full BIN is needed to reliably distinguish brands and sub-ranges like Mastercard's 2-series.
- Does it support Amex, JCB and Diners?
- Yes — all six major networks are supported: Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, JCB and Diners Club.
- Is co-branded card detection supported?
- The tool reports the primary network from the BIN; co-brand partners may not always be distinguishable from the BIN alone.
